Becoming a Volunteer
Working for the Credit Union is an interesting and rewarding occupation.
Currently at the Stroud Valleys Credit Union we have about 18 volunteers working in teams; several volunteers are members of more than one team.
The teams are:
Board of Directors – there are 9 members on the Board who meet once a month. They manage the credit union and are responsible to the members and the FSA.
Treasury team – There is 4 people in this team and they are responsible for the accounts, keeping record of all transactions on the computer, receiving and paying out cheques, liaising with the auditors etc. They tend to work in pairs in a flexible arrangement.
Credit Committee - A team of 4 receive requests from members for loans. They satisfy themselves that the loan is safe to make, agree the amount of, and period of the repayments and then process the loan.
Cashiers team – This is the front line of the volunteers. 8 people carry out this function regularly, working in pairs. They man the collection points: taking in the savings, paying out withdrawals and loans, enrolling new members they provide a link between the credit union and its members.
Internal Audit team – Our three auditors are responsible for ensuring that the credit union is run properly according to the rules.
Publicity & Recruitment team – this team advertises the credit union in the press, local radio, by leaflets etc, the aim being to increase membership and reach the people who desperately need the services of the credit union.
If you think you might like to do 2 or 3 hours work a week for the credit union, or would like more information, send a message on the contact page and we will get back to you.
